The Government of Mexico City enlisted an operation with about 6,500 people from various agencies to ensure security and “efficient attention” to those attending the free concert of Colombian singer Shakira, scheduled for Sunday, March 1 in the capital’s Zócalo.
In a press conference, Clara Brugada, head of the Mexican capital’s government, said that this is a “very important” event, and also stated that conditions exist for this public concert to be held, following the military operation in Jalisco and subsequent violent demonstrations triggered by the death of the leader of the Jalisco Cartel – New Generation, Nemesio Oseguera, alias El Mencho, which have cancelled other mass events.
The operation will involve, among others, the Secretariats of Government, Citizen Security, Citizen Attention and Participation, Health, Culture and Civil Protection, as well as the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office, Locatel and the Command, Control, Computing, Communications and Citizen Contact Center (C5), according to the chief of the capital.

“We know that the population is enthusiastic. We are preparing very well so that the Zócalo is not saturated, that the population knows that along at least three avenues, the main ones (…) We are organizing ourselves well so that Shakira’s concert can be enjoyed,” said the head of the capital.

Brugada explained that the concert will be brought closer to the public with the support of screens and audio on main avenues leading to the Zócalo, such as 20 de Noviembre, Pino Suárez and 5 de Mayo, in addition to a display on Avenida Juárez, from the Alameda Central to the Monumento a la Revolución.
As part of the mobility measures, the governor informed that Metro lines 1, 2 and 9 will extend their service until 1:00 a.m. to facilitate the safe return of attendees to their destinations.
Likewise, the Electric Transportation Service (STE) informed that it will also extend its service schedule on line 1 “Eje Central” Zero Emissions Corridor, line 2 “Chapultepec-CETRAM Pantitlán” and line 5 “San Felipe de Jesús-Hidalgo” of the trolleybus network until 01:00 hours on Monday, March 2 to facilitate the mobility and transportation of people attending the musical event.

Argel Gómez Concheiro, head of Great Community Festivals, explained that 24 screens with audio will be installed at the defined points, in addition to 12 modules of Citizen Attention, Health and Locatel.
Gómez Concheiro called on families with minors to opt for the giant screens in the Alameda Central and the Monumento a la Revolución, and recommended avoiding bulky bags and items such as sharp objects, coolers, alcoholic beverages, aerosols, glass containers and chairs, reported Agencia EFE.
