Rookies Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo shined Thursday in the New York Giants’ 34-17 victory over the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL’s Week 6 season opener.
Giants, still at the bottom of the National Football Conference (NFC) East standings, have two wins and four losses. Eagles remain at the top of the same division with a 4-2 record.
Rookie duo drives Giants to victory

Jaxson Dart, 22, and Cam Skattebo, 23, were drafted in the first and fourth rounds, respectively, of last April’s NFL Draft.
Dart, who won the starting job in week four after the team’s three consecutive losses with veteran Russell Wilson at the controls, was outstanding with 195 yards and two touchdowns, one rushing and one on the ground.
Cam Skattebo was unstoppable on the ground attack with 98 yards and three trips to the diagonals.
With Eagles, Jalen Hurts struggled with pressure from the home defense, was intercepted once and caught three times. He passed for 283 yards and a touchdown.
The Giants dominated the game in the first half 20-17.
Dart recovers and seals the win
In the third quarter they suffered a scare when Jaxson Dart had to leave for a concussion checkup after receiving a blow to the head.
Fortunately the boy returned to the field to round out the victory.
Week six of the NFL season will continue this Sunday with 12 games, including the clash between the New York Jets and Denver Broncos at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
Also noteworthy is the visit of the Cleveland Browns, where veteran Joe Flacco will make his debut at the controls, to the Pittsburgh Steelers, led by Aaron Rodgers.
Duel of the titans marks NFL week
Another two of the most attractive clashes will be between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, leader of the NFC South, and the San Francisco 49ers, who, despite multiple injuries, are at the top of the National Football League West.
And the Detroit Lions, number one in the NFC North, will visit the Kansas City Chiefs, third in the American Conference West, who are in a slump.
Week four of the NFL will conclude on Monday with two games:
Atlanta Falcons will host Buffalo Bills, the best team in the AFC, and Washington Commanders will face Chicago Bears.
