The wait is over. Netflix finally released the official trailer for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, marking the beginning of the countdown to the closing of one of the platform’s most influential and beloved series. The production created by brothers Matt and Ross Duffer promises an epic denouement that will put an end to almost a decade of adventures, mystery and eighties nostalgia.
The new season will be divided into three parts, an unprecedented strategy within the franchise, and will bring the inhabitants of Hawkins to face for the last time the fearsome Vecna, the most terrifying villain of theUpside Down.
Netflix confirmed that the fifth season will be released in three installments:
-
November 27, 2025: the first four episodes
-
December 26, 2025: three additional episodes
-
January 1, 2026: the final episode
In this way, the platform will offer a staggered closing that will accompany fans during the year-end holidays, culminating with a farewell that promises to be as emotional as it is impactful.

The trailer, officially launched on October 30, 2025, is already one of the most watched of the year and provoked an avalanche of reactions on social networks. Fans highlighted its somber tone, the return of Vecna and the visual winks that evoke the first episodes of the series. On X (formerly Twitter), the most repeated phrase was: “total goosebumps”.
This season’s story is set in the fall of 1987, shortly after the devastating events of the fourth installment. Hawkins lives its darkest days: the portals to the Upside Down remain open and the threat of Vecna, played by Jamie Campbell Bower, is still latent, although no one knows where he is hiding.
Faced with the imminent risk, the U.S. government imposes a military quarantine in the area, while Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) stays hidden trying to regain her powers and protect her friends. In parallel, the anniversary of Will Byers’ (Noah Schnapp) disappearance approaches, rekindling the memories and fears that gave rise to the whole story in the first season.
Stranger Things: A darker, faster-paced tone
The Duffer brothers previewed that this season will have a more intense pace and a darker atmosphere than ever before.
“It kicks off in the midst of chaos. Our heroes have already lost and have to pull themselves together to face something even bigger,” Ross Duffer explained.
The return of the original leads is one of the big attractions of the finale. Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers), David Harbour (Jim Hopper), Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas Sinclair), Sadie Sink (Max Mayfield) and Charlie Heaton (Jonathan Byers) reprise their roles to bring closure to the saga.
They are joined by Natalia Dyer (Nancy Wheeler), Joe Keery (Steve Harrington), Maya Hawke (Robin Buckley) and Priah Ferguson (Erica Sinclair), along with new additions that promise to add freshness to the story. Among them is Linda Hamilton, remembered for her role as Sarah Connor in Terminator, who will play Dr. Kay, a character linked to Hawkins’ lab’s past. Also joining is Jake Connelly as Derek Turnbow, a man with mysterious connections to the “Other Side.”

On the technical and creative side, Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen return as executive producers alongside the Duffers. The team promises to maintain the visual and narrative formula that made Stranger Things one of the most successful and recognized series in the history of streaming.
The trailer reveals a perfect blend of horror, sci-fi and nostalgia, with nods to classic ’80s movies, explosions of action and the signature emotional tone that has accompanied the series since its debut in 2016.
With its fifth season, Stranger Things closes a cycle that has marked an entire generation of viewers. Its fusion of youth adventure, supernatural horror and pop references consolidated it as a global cultural phenomenon.
Vecna’s return, Eleven’s final fight and Hawkins’ fate promise an epic farewell that combines nostalgia and redemption. For the millions of fans who have followed the series for nearly a decade, this finale represents not only the closure of a story, but also the end of an era in contemporary television.
