The new Super Mario movie remains the box office leader for the second week in a row, grossing $256 million and reaching $628 million worldwide, consolidating its position as the biggest movie hit of2026, according to Box Office Mojo.
The box office of the animated film inspired by the video game saga is divided into 308 million dollars in North America – United States and Canada – and 320 million dollars in the rest of the markets.
Ticket sales are down 48% from the first week of release but this is still a good result for a blockbuster of this magnitude, notes Variety.
After two weeks in theaters, the franchise has managed to surpass the year’s highest grossing film ‘Project Hail Mary’ (‘Project Salvation’), which has accumulated 510 million in worldwide grosses since its release on March 20. The film remains the second most-grossing film in North America.
Super Mario Galaxy is sweeping theaters at the box office

The premiere of ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ -which grossed $372 million in its first week worldwide- broke several records: it is the fifth-best opening ever for an animated film and the fourth-best for a Hollywood studio release, behind only ‘Zootopia 2’ (‘Zootopia 2’), ‘Moana 2’ (‘Vaiana 2’) and ‘Super Mario’ -without adjusting for inflation-, according to data from the Hollywood Reporter.
The Drama’, the film starring Robert Pattison and Zendaya, remains in third place in the U.S. and North America – $30 million grossed – and has a worldwide gross of $42 million.
The only film to enter the list of most viewed this week is ‘You, Me & Tuscany’, a romantic comedy directed by Kat Coiro, which has grossed $9 million worldwide, mainly in the U.S. and Canada – $8 million.
According to Agencia EFE, the animated film ‘Hoppers’ closes the list of the most-viewed films and accumulates 354 million grosses worldwide, of which 157 million are in North America and 197 million in the rest of the world.
