U.S. singer-songwriter Taylor Swift dismissed as “weird” the eagerness of some of her fans and the public to subject her lyrics to “paternity tests” to guess which ex-partner she is writing about, and claimed her role as the sole creator of her hits.

“That guy didn’t write the song. I did,” Swift said during an interview with The New York Times published Tuesday.

During the talk, Swift explained that her experiences have shaped the stories she tells in her songs, but she has also used mythology, fables, books, movies and invented characters as a source of inspiration.

The artist talked about her ‘rant bridges’ (a musical bridge of venting or complaint), a narrative tool she uses to intensify emotion.

Swift confessed that she loves writing these kinds of quick vocal parts, detailing that they serve to pull back, see the bigger picture and reveal the true picture of the story.

“You want this bridge of venting to convey as intensely as possible the emotion you’re trying to establish throughout the song, and you want it to be a kind of crescendo,” the singer-songwriter noted.

The multi-award-winning star also reflected on how, from an early age, her love of singing and playing instruments led her to realize that composition would be a fundamental pillar of her life, reported Agencia EFE.
