U.S. actor Anthony Geary, eight-time Emmy Award winner and most popular for his portrayal as Luke Spencer on the series “General Hospital,” has died at age 78, TVInsider media reported.
The actor died last December 14 due to complications from an operation scheduled three days earlier and his death has been made public by his husband Claudio Gama.
“It was a shock to me, our families and our friends. For more than 30 years, Tony has been my friend, my partner, my husband,” said the actor’s partner, as gathered by TvInsider.

Born May 29, 1947, in Coalville, Utah, Geary grew up in a Mormon home with his father, who ran a construction company, and his mother, a homemaker.
Anthony Geary’s legacy and career
While studying at the University of Utah, Geary’s talent caught the attention of Jack Albertson, known for his work on “Chico and the Man,” who attended a performance by the promising sophomore, the trade media outlet explains.
Albertson cast him in a touring theatrical production of “The Subject Was Roses,” a pivotal moment that catapulted his professional career. Over the years, Geary would go on to participate in more than 50 theatrical productions, maintaining his devotion to the theater alongside his work on the big screen.

In the late 1960s, Geary moved to Los Angeles, where he began to forge a solid career in television, appearing in popular series such as “The Partridge Family,” “The Mod Squad” and “All in the Family.”
His work finally caught the attention of producer Gloria Monty, who chose him to play Luke from General Hospital in 1978, a decision that would change his life and bring him great popularity, reported Agencia EFE.
