Grammy nominees announced! Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga and Bad Bunny lead the way

California rapper Kendrick Lamar was crowned Friday as the artist with the most Grammy nominations, with nine nominations, followed by Lady Gaga, Cirkut and Jack Antonoff with seven, while Puerto Rican star Bad Bunny achieved a new milestone in his career by opting for six statuettes.

Lamar will have another opportunity to extend his spectacular legacy at the music industry’s most prestigious awards thanks to his acclaimed latest album, ‘GNX’.

In addition to winning the categories for album of the year, song of the year and recording of the year, the rapper was also nominated for best rap album, best rap song and best melodic rap performance.

These nominations come after his resounding triumph in the previous edition of the Grammy Awards, where he swept five statuettes with just one song: ‘Not Like Us’, consolidating his position as one of the most influential figures in hip-hop.

Joining Lamar in the album of the year category is Puerto Rican hitmaker Bad Bunny with ‘DeBí TiRAR MáS FOTos’, which also became the second Spanish-language album to be nominated in the album of the year category; Lady Gaga’s ‘Mayhem’, Justin Bieber’s ‘Swag’, Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Man’s Best Friend’, Tyler, the Creator’s ‘Chromakopia’, Leon Thomas’ ‘Mutt’ and Clipse’s ‘Let God Sort Em Up’.

Precisely Lady Gaga was among the favorites to reign in this edition of the Grammys for her long-awaited ‘Mayhem’, with which she returns to her darkest pop era and for which she has achieved six nominations, including album of the year and best song and recording of the year with her hit ‘Abracadabra’.

The American star has amassed a total of 14 Grammys. Despite her many awards, to date she has not managed to win any statuettes in the categories considered the queen.

In addition to Lady Gaga, producers Cirkut and Jack Antonoff picked up seven nominations for being behind works such as Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Manchild’ and ‘Abracadabra’.

However, the big surprise came from the Puerto Rican star Bad Bunny, who has increased his legend with six nominations, two of them in the top categories: recording of the year, for the song ‘DTMF’, and album of the year.

At the gala of the 68th edition, to be held on February 1 in Los Angeles, the artist could add to his three Grammys won for ‘Un Verano Sin Ti’ and ‘El Último Tour Del Mundo’, with which he won the award for best urban music album two years in a row; and for ‘YHLQMDLG’, which gave him his first gramophone.

Bad Bunny is joined by Sabrina Carpenter who also earned six nominations, including album of the year with ‘Man’s Best Friend’, song of the year with ‘Manchild’, with which she also earned a nomination for best pop solo performance.

Mexican composer Edgar Barrera is nominated for the third consecutive time in a general category for composer of the year, non-classical.

Bad Bunny also received a nomination in the categories dedicated to Latin music. DeBí TiRAR MáS FOTos’ will compete for best urban music album with J Balvin, for ‘Mixteip’; Sagrado Feid, for ‘FERXXO VOL X: Sagrado’; Nicki Nicole, for ‘Naiki’; Trueno, for ‘EUB DELUXE’ and Yandel, for ‘SINFÓNICO (en vivo)’.

In the category of best Latin pop album are nominated Rauw Alejandro, for ‘Cosa nuestra’; Andrés Cepeda, for ‘Bogotá Delux’; Karol G, for ‘Tropicoqueta’; Natalia Lafourcade for ‘Cancionera’, and Alejandro Sanz, for ‘¿Y ahora qué?’.

Bomba Estéreo and the Venezuelan band Rawayana, with ‘ASTROPICAL’; Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso, with ‘PAPOTA’; Los Wizzards, with ‘ALGORHYTHM’; Aterciopelados, with ‘Genes Rebeldes’, and Fito Páez, with ‘Novela’, are competing for the award for Best Alternative Rock Album.

Fuerza Regida and Grupo Frontera for ‘Mala Mía’, with the latter nominated again in the same category for ‘Y lo que viene’. Completing the list are Paola Jara, for ‘Sin rodeos’; Carín León, for ‘Palabra de To’s (Seca)’; and Bobby Pulido, for ‘Bobby Pulido & Friends: Una Tuya y Una Mía – Por la Puerta Grande (En Vivo)’.

Fotografías’ by Rubén Blades and Roberto Delgado & Orquesta; ‘Raíces’ by Gloria Estefan; ‘Cásicos 1.0’ by Grupo Niche; ‘Bingo’ by Alain Pérez; and ‘Debut y Segunda Tanda, Vol. 2’ by Gilberto Santa Rosa will compete for best Latin tropical album.

In addition, reported Agencia EFE, Venezuelan orchestra conductor Gustavo Dudamel is up for four Grammys: best orchestral performance with the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra for ‘Bólero de Ravel’; best contemporary classical composition, for ‘Ortiz: Dzonot’; and best classical compendium and best choral performance, both for ‘Ortiz: Yanga’.
