The Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys vs. Kansas City Chiefs are the main Thanksgiving Day matchups in Week 13 of the NFL season.
The tradition of National Football League games on Thanksgiving Day dates back to the league’s inception in 1920, although the year-to-year repetition of the Detroit Lions as the home team in this celebration dates back to 1934.
Lions and Packers rekindle their historic rivalry

This Thursday the Lions will host the Green Bay Packers, one of their classic rivals they have faced since 1930.
This was when Detroit was playing under the name of the Portsmouth Spartans.
This season, both teams are vying to make the playoffs in the NFL’s National Football Conference (NFC) North division.
The Lions are third in the division at 7-4, chasing the Packers, who are second at 7-3; both are in the hunt for the leader Chicago Bears (8-3).
Cowboys and Chiefs look to stay alive

The Dallas Cowboys are the other team to traditionally host a game in their stadium on Thanksgiving Day since 1966.
On Thursday, the Lone Star team, which is coming off a win over the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles, will try to maintain its playoff chances if it beats the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Chiefs need a win if they are not to fall behind in their quest to reach the NFL postseason.
The Cowboys are in second place in the NFC East at 5-5, a record they need to turn into a winning record to continue their aspirations.
The Chiefs are third in the American Conference West at 6-5, behind the Broncos (9-2) and Chargers (7-4), so the only result that works for them is a win.
Since 2006, the NFL has expanded the Thanksgiving Day schedule to three games.
This Thursday that game will be played between the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals.
NFL action continues on Black Friday

The activity will continue on Friday as part of the so-called ‘Black Friday’, which has been held since 2023.
The Philadelphia Eagles will now face off against the Chicago Bears.
On Sunday, 11 games are scheduled, including the Buffalo Bills’ visit to the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Indianapolis Colts’ game against the Houston Texans.
Week 13 will conclude on Monday, when the New England Patriots, the league’s top-ranked team with 10 wins and two losses, will seek their tenth consecutive victory when they face the New York Giants, who are no longer in the playoff picture.
