The nightmare for Honduran families does not end. While the world is processing the discovery of seven bodies inside a freight car in Laredo, Texas, authorities in Tegucigalpa have set off the alarm bells: a third compatriot could be among the dead.

Flabia Zamora, Director of Consular Affairs of the Honduran Foreign Ministry, confirmed that, in addition to the two young men already fully identified, there is an investigation process to confirm the identity of Josué Zerón Valdez, who is presumed to be the third Honduran victim in this fateful trip.

The coldness of the figures is broken by the names of those who were looking for an opportunity.

So far, Honduras officially mourns to:

Nelson David Portillo: A boy of only 14 years of age, originally from La Masica, Atlántida. His mother, who is in Mexico, awaits the return of her son’s remains to bid him a final farewell in his homeland.

Denis Anariba: 25 years old and a native of El Negrito, Yoro. In his case, the family has decided that his body will not be repatriated, remaining on U.S. soil where his wife resides.

Heat stroke: A death trap in extreme temperatures

The Webb County coroner’s report is devastating.

The cause of death of the entire group was massive heat stroke.

The migrants were trapped in extreme temperatures inside the metal wagon, with no escape route.

Although six bodies were originally found in the dumpster in Laredo, the remains of a seventh person – who could be Josué Zerón – were found at a nearby location.

That suggests that the group tried desperately to seek help before succumbing to the unforgiving South Texas weather.

This incident once again puts the spotlight on the vulnerability of migrants who, faced with the tightening of borders in this 2026, are opting for increasingly dangerous methods of transport.

The Honduran Foreign Ministry assures that it is in constant communication with the forensic medicine authorities in McAllen to expedite the identification and return process.
