U.S. national security has taken an unexpected hit, but not because of a breach in the wall, but because of a scandal at the highest levels. Michael Banks, the head of the Border Patrol and one of the key players in the Trump administration’s immigration policy, resigned effective immediately on Thursday. The official reason? “Enjoying family.” The reason circulating in Washington? An investigation for inappropriate conduct.
The Washington Examiner uncovered a “Pandora’s box” when it published that Banks had hired prostitution services during official trips to Colombia and Thailand over the last decade. According to testimonies of colleagues and former agents, Banks not only solicited these services, but allegedly “bragged” about it in the office.
From “Border Czar” to forced retirement

Michael Banks is not just any name.
In 2023 he temporarily retired due to differences with Joe Biden and was rescued by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who appointed him “border czar” to enforce heavy-handed measures.
With Donald Trump’s return to the White House in January 2025, Michael Banks returned through the big door as the Border Patrol’s top chief.
“I feel like I’ve put the ship back on the right course,” Banks told Fox News, defending leaving the most secure border in history.
However, his departure leaves a leadership vacuum at one of the most critical times for the immigration agency.
Official silence and the support of their superiors

Despite the seriousness of the allegations, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) decided to send him off with flowers.
Commissioner Rodney Scott thanked him for his “decades of service” and congratulated him on his retirement, avoiding the subject of the journalistic investigation that today has him in the eye of the hurricane.
Michael Banks now takes refuge on his ranch in Texas, but the stain on his record is unlikely to be erased by retirement.
As the Trump administration searches for a replacement who will maintain the hard line, the question remains: how many more secrets do the halls of border enforcement hold?
What about you Onnda, do you think an official with this kind of accusation should simply walk away with a “thank you for your services” or should he face a thorough legal investigation?
In QuéOnnda we tell you the truth behind the power. A production of Nueva Network.
