U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday that he could make a decision on a possible attack on Iran in the “next ten days” if the two countries fail to reach an agreement on Tehran’s nuclear program.

“Maybe we have to go one step further, or maybe not. Maybe we’ll come to an agreement. You’ll know probably in the next 10 days,” he said during a speech at the opening of the first meeting of his Peace Board, created by Trump himself to resolve global conflicts.

Trump also insisted that it is necessary to “reach a meaningful agreement” on Iran, “otherwise bad things can happen.”

“Now is the time for Iran to join us on a path that completes what we are doing. And if they join us, it will be great. If they don’t join, it will also be great, but it will be a very different path,” Trump asserted, at the same time that the U.S. military is conducting a major naval and air deployment in the Middle East.

The U.S. military is reportedly prepared to attack Iran this weekend, although President Donald Trump has not yet made a final decision on whether he will authorize such actions, CNN and The New York Times reported Thursday.

In this context of international tension, Trump insisted that “we cannot continue to threaten the stability of the entire region and we must reach an agreement.”

The president praised the efforts being made by U.S. Middle East space envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to reach an agreement with Iran to avoid any military intervention in the country.

“They are meeting, and they have a good relationship with Iranian representatives. Good conversations are taking place,” Trump explained.

Meanwhile, two Democratic representatives will demand that the U.S. Congress authorize any intervention in Iran, reported Agencia EFE.
