The Giants’ only run came on a double by Willy Adames, who later scored on a grounder to the infield.

Skenes dominated after that point and retired his last nine consecutive batters.

The U.S. reliever maintained control of the game.

Matthew Boyd pitched 2.2 innings allowing no runs, with four strikeouts, while David Bednar, Mason Miller, Griffin Jax and Gabe Speier completed the game with shutout innings.

The United States is looking to capture its second World Baseball Classic title and first since 2017, when it won the tournament for the first time.

Manager Mark DeRosa highlighted the atmosphere that has been created within the team during preparation.

After the game, several players remained in the dugout talking and strengthening the chemistry of the group.

The U.S. team will play another exhibition game in Arizona against the Colorado Rockies before traveling to Houston to begin the group stage.

Among the coaching staff’s plans is for Tarik Skubal, last seasons American League Cy Young winner, to open one of the tournament games.
