New Zealand filmmaker Peter Jackson announced Wednesday the development of a new film of the saga ‘The Lord of the Rings’ (‘The Lord of the Rings’) in which the script will be in charge of the American host Stephen Colbert and one of his sons, Peter McGee.
The new film, ‘The Lord of the Rings: Shadows of the Past’, will follow another film already in the works, ‘The Hunt for Gollum’, which will be directed by Andy Serkis and due in 2027.
In a video released Wednesday on the networks by Warner Bros. production company, Colbert noted that it has been based on six of the opening chapters of the novel ‘The Fellowship of the Ring’ (‘The Fellowship of the Ring’), by British J.R.R. Tolkien, which were not part of the first film of the saga.
“I thought, ‘Wait, maybe that could be a stand-alone story that fits into the main story. Could we do something that would be totally faithful to the books while still completely respecting the movies that have already been made?'” says the host of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, whose show will stop airing this coming May.

The plot advanced by the specialized media Variety points out that 14 years after Frodo’s death, Sam, Merry and Pippin embark on a journey to relive the first steps of their adventure.
Meanwhile, Sam’s daughter Elanor has discovered a long-hidden secret and is determined to find out why the War of the Ring was nearly lost before it even began.
Variety recalls that this is not the first time Jackson and Colbert will work together.
Colbert had a small role in ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ (‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’, 2013) and also directed Jackson and three stars of that saga – Ian McKellen, Viggo Mortensen and Elijah Wood – in the short film ‘Darrylgorn’ (2019), set in the Middle-earth imagined by Tolkien.
The Lord of the Rings’ films have earned Jackson 17 Oscars. Eleven of them, including best film and best director, were for 2003’s ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King’, reported Agencia EFE.
