The race to succeed Ron DeSantis in Florida just lost one of its contenders in the most scandalous way possible. Republican Kevin Cichowski, 46, ended up behind bars this weekend after a violent episode that looks like something out of an action movie… but the bad kind.

According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office report, Cichowski did not measure up. Last Friday, the now ex-candidate allegedly beat a senior citizen with a cane, threw a cell phone at another and, if that wasn’t enough, threatened to kill the victims and the officers who arrived to arrest him.

Republican Kevin Cichowski, who had been running for Florida governor, was arrested after allegedly assaulting two elderly people, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office in the northeastern part of the state.

Cichowski, 46, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a person over 65, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, tampering with a witness and two counts of robbery by sudden snatching.

Officers reported that the events occurred last Friday when Cichowski struck one person with a baton, threw a cell phone at another, and threatened to kill them both as well as the officers.

  • The charges he faces are heavy:
  • Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
  • Assault on a person over 65 years of age.
  • Witness tampering and theft

Cichowski, who had previously been arrested in 2024 for domestic assault, was seeking to participate in the August 18 primary.

Florida gubernatorial elections will be held next November to elect the successor to Governor Ron DeSantis, who is ineligible for re-election due to term limits.

In the race, the Republican Party has as its main favorite Congressman Byron Donald Donaldson, who also has the public endorsement of President Donald Trump.

For the Democratic Party, former Congressman David Jolly and Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings are leading the preferences.
