América, led by Geyse and Guerrero, was aggressive from the start against a Monterrey team that adopted a strategy of getting into their own half and looking for a counterattack to do some damage.

In the eighth minute, a header by Montserrat Saldivar sent the ball into the net.

Goal disallowed for a push from behind by Geyse on an opposing defender.

In the 38th minute, Geyse was again the protagonist, beating a couple of defenders and shooting from in front of the goal.

But the ball went just over the crossbar.

The Eagles opened the scoring a minute before halftime thanks to a cross from Costa Rica’s Valeria del Campo, who slipped the ball past goalkeeper Paola Manrique.

In the second half, América made it 2-0 in the 51st minute in a play that was a carbon copy of the first.

Del Campo again failed to clear a cross into the box, Manrique released the ball, Geyse stole it, shot and scored.

Two serious errors by the Rayadas, who in the regular tournament boasted the best defense with only eight goals conceded in 17 games.

In the 80th minute a kick inside the visitors’ box on Geyse was marked as a penalty.

Scarlett Camberos shot to the right of the goalkeeper to make it 3-0.
