Club Deportivo Guadalajara, popularly known as Chivas, will change its venue in the coming months due to remodeling work at the Akron Stadium, one of the Mexican venues for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

During this period, the team will play its home games at the Jalisco Stadium, a venue with a long soccer history.

The decision for Chivas to change stadiums responds to the need to modernize the Akron Stadium in accordance with FIFA standards for the 2026 World Cup.

Although an exact date for the start of the work has not yet been announced, the intervention in the building has already been confirmed.

Improvements will include the installation of FIFAPro-certified hybrid turf, a system that combines natural grass and synthetic fibers, providing a first-class surface.

In addition, a new state-of-the-art drainage system will be implemented, which will require several weeks or even months of work, according to sources close to the club’s board.

In view of this situation, El Rebaño Sagrado will temporarily play at the Jalisco Stadium, also located in Guadalajara.

This venue was home to Chivas for decades before the opening of the Akron in 2010, so it represents a symbolic return.

It is estimated that the stay at the Jalisco will not exceed six months, depending on the progress of the works at the Akron.

Meanwhile, the Chivas board of directors, Clubes Unidos de Jalisco and Atlas are working in coordination to guarantee access to the Jalisco Stadium for season ticket holders, box owners and pass holders, avoiding conflicts between fans.

For the thousands of Hispanic Chivas fans living in the United States, this change of venue is relevant for several reasons:

Access to tickets and tour packages to see the team in a stadium with a historically larger capacity.

Tracking the progress of the Akron Stadium towards 2026, which could host high-caliber matches during the World Cup.

Opportunity to visit Guadalajara in a stage of soccer transformation.

This strategic move reflects how Mexico is preparing intensively to host the World Cup, with renovations to its most important stadiums.
