What was supposed to be a quiet early morning turned into the worst nightmare the city of Shreveport, Louisiana, has ever witnessed. A “domestic disturbance” ended in an unspeakable massacre: eight children, ages one to 14, lost their lives in a mass shooting that has left the world in shock.

Local police spokesman Christopher Bordelon confirmed that the attack occurred in the Cedar Grove neighborhood. The crime scene is described as “extensive,” encompassing three separate homes. According to preliminary reports, a total of ten people were shot; unfortunately, the vast majority were minors, and Bordelon himself painfully noted that several of the little ones were “descendants” of the attacker.

After committing the crime, the assailant fled in a stolen vehicle.

However, justice did not take long to catch up with him.

Following a police chase, officers shot the suspect.

“We believe that he is the only individual who fired the shots,” said the authority, ruling out the participation of more accomplices in this barbaric act.

The only survivors

Amidst the horror, only two people managed to survive the attack.

One of them, an adult woman, is fighting for her life in a local hospital with critical injuries, CNN reports.

Another minor is hospitalized, but without life-threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, the investigation is just beginning, and although official identities have not been revealed, the emotional impact is already being felt across the country.

“The most tragic situation in our history.”

Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux was visibly shaken, declaring that this is perhaps the biggest tragedy the city of 180,000 has ever faced.

“It’s a terrible morning,” the president lamented, a sentiment shared by millions of people today.

This incident brings the debate about domestic violence and safety in the United States back to the table.

At QuéOnnda, we join in the mourning of the families affected by this irreparable loss.

How about you, Onnda? How long will this cycle of violence that affects the most innocent people stop?
