The Buffalo Bills pulled off an epic performance on Sunday to open their NFL season with a victory, with a 32-yard field goal by Matt Prater in the last second to certify a 16-point comeback (41-40).
In a rematch of the divisional round matchup from the last playoffs, the Ravens had it won, but melted down in the final period in the face of Josh Allen and the Bills’ prideful reaction.
Allen shines and Jackson falls short of the prize
Allen led the Buffalo Bills with 394 yards through the air (33-of-46) and two touchdown passes, to which he added 30 yards rushing and two touchdowns. James Cook scored another rushing TD, while Dalton Kincaid and Keon Coleman had TD receptions.
It was a tough loss for the Ravens, who spoiled a great performance by quarterback Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry.
Jackson threw for 210 yards, with two touchdown passes, and scored a rushing TD. Henry went for 169 yards on 18 carries and scored two TDs.
Henry’s fumble opened the comeback
But Henry, who was coming off a spectacular 46-yard touchdown run, also committed a fumble in the fourth period that took its toll on the Ravens.
The Buffalo Bills were down 40-32 when they got the ball back with three minutes remaining. Allen scored on the run for the TD that brought the Bills within 40-38 and the Buffalo defense got the ball back with less than 90 seconds left.
Allen found two passing lanes of 32 and 25 yards on the final drive and led the way for Prater’s third field goal of the night, handing the Bills a thrilling victory in Buffalo (With information from EFE).
