The presence of multiple unmarked vehicles and masked agents in Chicago and surrounding areas represents the advance in that city of large-scale immigration raids promised by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, according to elected officials and activists.

State Senator Karina Villa warned on Monday, September 15, about the presence of authorities in immigration raids in DuPage County, west of Chicago.

ICE presence alerted

In several videos on her social networks, the Democratic Party lawmaker said her office and immigrant advocacy organizations received reports of Immigration and Customs Enforcement(ICE) agents being present as the children were on their way to school.

In the images, Villa could be seen walking through the streets of West Chicago.

He warned about the presence of immigration agents and asked people to take refuge in their homes.

School authorities in that area issued a “safety and teaching” protocol for schools.

This is in response to ICE activities in the area to protect students and parents, CBS reported.

The video of the alleged arrest of the parents of two minors who were left abandoned in a vehicle in which they were traveling on the streets of Chicago this Sunday, September 14, has gone viral on social networks, triggering outrage over the operation dubbed ‘Operation Midway Blitz’, which has already left one dead.

Mexican national Silverio Villegas Gonzalez, 38, was shot by an ICE agent last Friday when he allegedly resisted arrest at a traffic stop where he attempted to run over agents, immigration authorities said.

U.S. House Representative Delia Ramirez reported at a press conference that the Mexican had taken her son to school when he was intercepted by immigration authorities.

On Monday, September 15, Illinois Governor Jay Robert Pritzker demanded “transparency” from the Trump Administration about the Mexican shooting.
