More than three decades after their debut on the music scene, Mister Chivo, one of the pioneering groups of Mexican cumbia and pop, achieves a historic first place on the Billboard charts. Their single “¿Qué haces por acá?”, in collaboration with the successful Texan group Grupo Frontera, reached No. 1 on the Regional Mexican Airplay chart on October 18, 2025.
This achievement represents a key moment in the trajectory of the sextet from Tamaulipas, Mexico, which had appeared on Billboard charts only with albums on three previous occasions: in Top Regional Mexican Albums (1987 and 1991) and in Latin Album Sales (2019). According to Luminate data, “¿Qué haces por acá?” racked up 6.9 million audience impressions in the U.S. for the week ending October 9, a 3% increase over the previous week.
Mister Chivo’s song also remains strong on the Latin Airplay chart, where it occupies No. 4 for the second consecutive week with more than 7 million impressions.
The track, released on June 11, 2025 under the independent BorderTown label, pays homage to the classic cumbia sound of the 1970s.
But with a fresh style that has conquered both new generations and fans of traditional Latin music.
This is also the first No. 1 for the label.

For Grupo Frontera, this collaboration with Mister Chivo represents their 13th No. 1 in just two years, consolidating them as one of the most influential acts in the genre.
In April 2025, the band also reached the first place with “Me jaló”, together with Fuerza Regida.

The success of “¿Qué haces por acá?” confirms the expansion of regional Mexican music in the United States, especially among Hispanic communities.
