French actor Tchéky Karyo, known for his role in films such as ‘Nikita’ or in series such as ‘The Missing’, died Friday at the age of 72 from cancer.
“Valérie Keruzoré, his wife, and his children communicate with sorrow the death of Tchéky Karyo from cancer,” the family conveyed in a statement, as broadcast by public broadcaster Franceinfo.
Of Greek and Turkish origins, Karyo was born in 1953 in Istanbul, but grew up in France and developed his career there.

His beginnings in cinema were in 1982, the year in which he participated in films such as the successful ‘La Balance’ (Bob Swaim), a crime film for which he was nominated for best new actor at the César Awards.
His most famous film appearances were his roles in ‘L’Ours’ (1988), by Jean-Jacques Annaud, and in ‘Nikita’, directed by Luc Besson, in 1990.
He had most recently participated in the British series ‘The Missing’ (2014-2016), in which he played a French detective who connected the stories of the two seasons, Agencia EFE reported.
