The former guitarist of the Mexican rock band Caifanes, Alejandro Marcovich, 65, is in a coma after suffering a stroke last Tuesday night, his relatives said Friday.
In a statement, Marcovich’s wife, Gabriela Martínez, and his children, Béla and Diego, said that last Tuesday the musician suffered a stroke and was rushed to the hospital.

“The musician is in a coma in the intensive care area with a reserved prognosis,” they said in the note and noted that “he is in the good hands of medical specialists with his wife and two children.”
Due to this mishap, they explained, Marcovich “will not be able to attend the concert dates already agreed upon until further notice,” while thanking them for the many expressions of affection, prayers and good wishes that have reached them.

They also expressed their confidence in his speedy recovery and thanked fans and the media for their understanding during this difficult time.
With Eastern European roots, born in Argentina and exiled to Mexico with his family as a teenager, Marcovich was part of Caifanes from 1989 to 1995, years in which the group disintegrated due to problems and leagle disputes between Alejandro and vocalist Saúl Hernández, but reunited in April 2011.

In 2010, Marcovich was diagnosed with a brain tumor and underwent surgery and in 2022 he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, reported Agencia EFE.
