The Leagues Cup 2025 came to an end with some surprises and an unexpected protagonist: Ángel Correa, Tigres’ new signing.
The Argentine was chosen as the star of the ideal XI prepared by the statistics platform Sofascore, surpassing in performance even legends such as Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez.
Tigres and Correa’s contribution

Although the Mexican teams were eliminated in the quarterfinals, Ángel Correa was the exception.
The Argentine striker scored key goals in three of Tigres’ matches, including a goal in his debut against Houston Dynamo and a brace against San Diego FC.
This made him the tournament’s scoring champion with only three appearances.
In the quarterfinals, his equalizing goal against Inter Miami kept the regiomontanos alive, although they eventually lost 2-1 on penalties scored by Suárez.
Still, SofaScore rated him 8.5 points, above Messi (7.98) and Suarez (7.68).
The ideal XI of the tournament

The ideal eleven formed a 4-3-3 formation that reflected the dominance of MLS in this edition.
Inter Miami and Seattle Sounders contributed four players each, while LA Galaxy and Orlando City rounded out the lineup.
They include Jordi Alba in defense, Rodrigo De Paul in midfield and Joseph Paintsil as one of the offensive revelations.

Andrew Thomas, who starred in the penalty shootout against Puebla and was solid throughout the tournament, shone in goal.
The defense was led by Alex Roldan, Yeimar Gomez and Jackson Ragen, all with outstanding scores in the most important games.
Consolation prize for Liga MX

The presence of Ángel Correa in the ideal XI was seen as a recognition of Mexican soccer, which failed to advance to the semifinals.
For Tigres, the arrival of the former Atlético de Madrid player is already considered a success:
He debuted with goals, connected with the fans immediately and put the name of his club on high in a tournament dominated by MLS.
