Nashville police are investigating a grisly find in the northern part of the city after human remains were found in an advanced state of decomposition and a skull separated a few feet from the body.
The case has shocked residents and kept local authorities on alert.
Decapitated Body Found on Dickerson Pike
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) received an emergency call around 10:30 a.m. (Central Time) on Friday, August 22.
According to police spokeswoman Brooke Reese told local media, a woman had found what appeared to be human remains in the wooded area near the 3300 block of Dickerson Pike.
This is a road corridor located in the north of the city that combines residential areas with businesses and motels.
When the agents arrived at the scene, they located a severely decomposed body that was covered with a sheet in the middle of the vegetation.
About 30 meters (100 feet) away from the torso, officers found a human skull, which led to the finding being categorized as a case of decapitated human remains.

During a press conference, spokeswoman Reese explained that the victim has not been identified at this time.
Due to the degree of decomposition, it has not yet been possible to determine the sex, age or cause of death.
