Immigration tension in the United States has found its new epicenter in the streets of New York. This Wednesday, White House “Border Czar” Tom Homan issued a warning that has sent shivers down the spines of “sanctuary city” policies: if the state moves forward with laws blocking cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the response will be an unprecedented federal mobilization.

Homan did not mince words during a conference call reported by Newsmax.
On the possibility that the New York legislature will pass a bill that would prohibit local police from collaborating with ICE on non-violent crimes, the official was blunt: “We are going to flood the area. You’re going to see more ICE agents than ever before.”
According to the Immigration Czar, this legislation is “ridiculous” and will only force federal agents to make mass arrests on the streets.
Homan explained that when his agents go out looking for a “priority target,” they inevitably end up detaining other immigrants who are in the country illegally, thus increasing deportation numbers in the state.

The response from New York Governor Kathy Hochul was not long in coming and was a real bucket of cold water for Homan.
In a defiant press conference, the Democrat reminded the Czar that she has a direct agreement with the boss: “Donald Trump said he would not send more ICE agents to New York state unless I ask for it. And I’m not asking for it.”
Hochul defended the state budget that includes enhanced protections for immigrants and a veto of 287(g) agreements, which allow local police officers to act as immigration agents.
However, he clarified that cooperation will continue, but only and exclusively for cases involving violent criminals.

This confrontation follows a controversial ICE arrest inside a Brooklyn hospital last weekend.
Activists and neighbors denounced that the local police (NYPD) actively collaborated by cordoning off the area so that federal agents could take a person away.
This event has set off alarm bells about whether sanctuary city policies are being respected or whether pressure from the White House is already flexing the hands of local authorities.
Do you think Governor Hochul will be able to stop the “flood” of ICE agents or will Trump end up breaking his promise to impose order in New York?
