The name of Canelo Alvarez is once again generating conversation, but this time outside of boxing, as former Mexican soccer star and goalkeeper Jorge Campos surprised by launching a direct challenge to the champion from Guadalajara… but in golf! Canelo is currently away from the ring after his loss to Terence Crawford in September 2025, focusing on his physical recovery. In this context, the boxer participated in the LIV Golf ProAm, where he also talked about his return to the ring scheduled for September 2, 2026 in Saudi Arabia, still without a confirmed opponent.
It was precisely in the middle of this sports break that Campos appeared with a challenge that quickly went viral. True to his casual style, the former player publicly challenged him to a golf duel, even proposing the venue. “Canelo, I challenge you. Whenever you want, we’ll play head to head in San Diego,” said Campos, making it clear that he is not looking for any advantage and that the confrontation would be on equal terms.

The challenge was not just words.
Jorge Campos also suggested that the duel against Canelo Álvarez have an economic stake, maintaining the relaxed tone that characterizes him.
“Do you have money for the bet?” he added, generating even more reaction among both boxing and soccer fans.
So far, Canelo Alvarez has not publicly responded to the challenge, but the proposal has sparked interest.
Especially among the Hispanic community in the United States, where both are widely recognized figures.
Canelo focuses on his comeback

Beyond Jorge Campos’ challenge, Canelo Alvarez’s main objective is his return to boxing.
After several months of inactivity, the Mexican champion acknowledged that the break was necessary to recover from accumulated injuries.
“It feels weird not to be fighting, but I had to tend to my body,” he commented, hinting at his desire to return to the ring soon.
Regarding his next opponent, the boxer was clear: no decision has been made yet.
He confirmed that his team is analyzing different options, with the intention of choosing a high-level opponent, preferably a champion.
