Music producer Cruz Martinez was declared a fugitive from justice by a control judge of the Superior Court of Justice of Nuevo Leon, after failing to appear at a key hearing scheduled for July 3, 2025.

The hearing was related to an attempted femicide complaint filed by his ex-wife, singer Alicia Villarreal. Due to his absence, the judge issued an arrest warrant against him.

Martinez’s lawyer, Leopoldo Angel, alleged personal reasons for the absence, without providing additional details.

The complaint arose after an incident in February 2025, when Villarreal made a distress signal during a concert in Michoacán, indicating that she was a victim of gender violence.

Subsequently, she filed a formal complaint with the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Feminicides and Crimes against Women in Nuevo León, accusing Martínez of physical aggression and theft of personal belongings.

As a protective measure, authorities issued a restraining order prohibiting Martinez from approaching Villarreal during the legal process.

Given that Martinez is a U.S. citizen and has scheduled appearances in the United States, Mexican authorities do not rule out requesting the collaboration of Interpol to locate and arrest him.

Martinez’s unjustified non-attendance at the hearing could lead to the judicial process being carried out with him in preventive detention, according to Villarreal’s legal team.
