Actors Ian McKellen and Elijah Wood will reprise their roles in a new film in “The Lord Of The Rings” franchise, which will incorporate Jamie Dornan in the role of Aragorn.
“The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum,” the title the new installment of the saga will carry, was unveiled at Cinemacon in Las Vegas, Variety magazine reports.
Andy Serkis will direct and is scheduled for theatrical release on December 17, 2027.
In addition to directing the film, Serkis plays Gollum/Sméagol, Ian McKellen returns as Gandalf, Elijah Wood returns as Frodo Baggins and Lee Pace reprises his role as Thranduil, according to the release.
New additions to the “Lord of the Rings” saga include Kate Winslet as Marigol and Leo Woodall as Halvard.

In addition, Jamie Dornan – known for “Fifty Shades of Grey” “Fifty Shades of Grey”) will also play Strider, who is later revealed in the original novel as Aragorn, played in the first films of the saga by Viggo Mortensen.
The film will chronicle the search for the corrupt hobbit that gives the film its title in the years leading up to the first installment of the trilogy, “The Fellowship of the Ring.”
The trilogy’s original screenwriters, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, join Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou to adapt the popular work by writer J.R.R. Tolkien.
Tolkien wrote “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy in the 1950s, following the success of “The Hobbit” in 1937.

New Zealander Peter Jackson adapted “The Lord of the Rings” into three films in 2001, 2002 and 2003, and subsequently extended “The Hobbit” into his own film trilogy in 2012, 2013 and 2014, recalls Variety.
The original “Lord of the Rings” films were milestones at the box office and in terms of technical achievement, grossing nearly US$3 billion worldwide and winning 17 Oscars, reported Agencia EFE.
