Mexican director Guillermo del Toro will compete for the Golden Globe for best director at the 83rd edition of the Golden Globes for ‘Frankenstein’, an award that will be disputed with other industry heavyweights such as Paul Thomas Anderson, for ‘One Battle After Another’.
Choé Zhao, for ‘Hamnet’; Jafar Panahi, for ‘It Was Just An Accident’; Joachim Trier, for ‘Sentimental Value’; and Ryan Coogler, for ‘Sinners’ complete the list of candidates, whose winner will be announced on January 11 in Los Angeles.
The Mexican is a Golden Globe nominee for the direction of his most recent film, ‘Frankenstein’, the film adaptation of Mary Shelley’s novel of the same title, which garnered a total of five nominations.

This gothic classic stars Guatemalan-American actor Oscar Isaac as the scientist and Jacob Elordi as the Creature -both also nominated-, as well as Mia Goth as Lady Elisabeth Harlander.
This is Del Toro’s fourth project to be recognized by the Golden Globes organization after winning in 2023 in the Best Animated Project category for ‘Pinocchio’.
He also won in the directing category in 2018 for ‘The Shape of Water’ (‘The Shape of Water’) and was nominated for best foreign language film in 2007 with ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’, where he travels to 1944 Spain, reported Agencia EFE.
