U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has issued a strong warning to the immigrant community: ignoring immigration appointments not only jeopardizes the legal process, but can also lead to criminal consequences. Through its official social networks, the agency reiterated that all migrants must appear for their mandatory hearings before judges or immigration authorities.
In a recent post on Instagram, ICE was emphatic: “When an immigration judge orders you to appear in person before ICE, you better do it. We will find you.” This message comes as part of the tightening of immigration policies pushed in 2025, under an administration that has prioritized strict immigration enforcement.
Actual case: arrest for failure to keep an appointment

As an example of what happens to those who do not comply, ICE publicly exposed the case of Jamil Bahlouli, a 32-year-old Iranian citizen.
Bahlouli had a deportation order from 2020 and voluntarily left the U.S. for Canada in 2021.
However, he returned illegally and was arrested in Montana in January 2024 for unauthorized entry.
Although he was released under specific conditions, such as his mandatory appearance in San Antonio on January 23, he never showed up.
On June 25, ICE located him in Austin, Texas, where he initially resisted arrest.
He was eventually detained and now faces additional charges of evasion, in addition to the previously issued deportation.
Non-compliance can aggravate your situation

ICE has made it clear that failure to appear will not be tolerated, even in cases where migrants have no criminal record.
Ignoring an immigration citation can lead to:
New criminal charges for evasion
Loss of future immigration benefits
Immediate deportation and expedited proceedings
In the words of the agency:
“Migration processes must be complied with. Being released into the community with clear instructions is not an invitation to disappear.”
Key recommendation for migrants

If you receive an immigration summons or notice from ICE, show up promptly or consult with an immigration attorney.
Failure to do so may close any legal doors you still have open.
Immigration processes must be followed
ICE currently uses digital tools, social networks and automated systems to locate individuals with pending proceedings.
The agency has stepped up its operations and has begun to publicize more cases like Bahlouli’s as part of its deterrence campaign.
