Goals from Rodrigo De Paul and Uruguay’s Luis Suárez, between the 82nd and 83rd minute, gave Inter Miami a 2-0 win over Real Salt Lake on Wednesday in the ninth matchday of MLS 2026.
Inter Miami suffered in the visit to the cold Salt Lake City, but solved a difficult game thanks to the spark of its champions.
Two great goals in decisive minutes

De Paul broke the deadlock in the 82nd minute with a wonderful curling right-footed shot from 20 yards out.
And just seconds later, Suarez, who started as a substitute, made it 2-0 with a great left-footed volley after a one-two with Mexico’s German Berterame.
“There were a lot of things we worked on this week with Guille (Hoyos). I kicked, I felt it, a nice goal.”
De Paul said at the end of Inter Miami’s 2026 MLS Matchday 9 match before celebrating Suarez’s goal.
“El ‘Gordo’ is an outlier, he has hierarchy and, above all, he is a great lesson in humility.”
“Sometimes it’s hard, for players who are soccer history, not to touch it. This is the award he deserves, it teaches us all a lot,” he said.

And he made no secret of Inter Miami’s goal, second in the East behind Nashville in MLS, before the 2026 World Cup.
“We want to catch Nashville, finish first, try to grab the lead. It’s going to be tough.”
“The goal is that when the World Cup break comes, we will be on top of everyone,” he said.
De Paul celebrated his second goal of the season in eight games, as did Suarez, who made the most of his minutes in a campaign in which he lost his starting place.
The Uruguayan has 33 goals and 21 assists in his MLS career.

It was a valuable win for Inter Miami against a Real Salt Lake team that had not lost since the first day of MLS 2026.
And they had chances to take the lead with a goal by Morgan Guilavogui, disallowed for a previous offside by Spaniard Sergi Solans.
Real Salt Lake’s Brazilian goalkeeper, Rafael Cabral, made two outstanding saves in the first half.
One of them against a powerful left-footed shot by Leo Messi.
We want to catch up with Nashville
Rodrigo De Paul
It was in the last ten minutes of the game that the visitors were able to break the balance and take a big win to move within one point of leader Nashville.
Messi, who had just scored a brace against the Colorado Rapids, came close to scoring in stoppage time, but again came up against Cabral after a great personal move.
