The New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL) on Sunday extended their active record to 15 seasons without qualifying for the playoffs, the longest among teams in the four major U.S. professional sports leagues.
The New York team broke the tie it shared with the National Hockey League’s Buffalo Sabres of 14 consecutive years without advancing to the postseason.

The Jets’ 10-34 loss to the Miami Dolphins left them with a record of three wins and three losses, at the bottom of the American Football Conference (AFC) East division, where they no longer have a chance of qualifying.
The most recent time the New York Jets punched a ticket to the playoffs was in the 2010 season, when they finished the regular season with a record of 11-5.
In that postseason they lost the AFC finals to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Aaron Glenn, who came to the team this season for his first head coaching experience, took responsibility for the failure.
“This is my fault. That’s how I take it on. The only thing we can do is to improve and keep improving. Because before we can start winning consistently we have to get better in every aspect. That includes us as coaches,” Glenn said after the loss.
In addition to the Jets, three other teams missed the NFL playoffs on Sunday.
The Washington Commanders, who were thrashed 31-0 by the Minnesota Vikings to fall to three wins and 10 losses; the Atlanta Falcons, who fell 9-37 to the Seattle Seahawks for a record of four wins and nine losses; and the Cleveland Browns, who stumbled 29-31 to the Tennessee Titans to fall to 3-10.
These franchises join the New York Giants (2-11), New Orleans Saints (3-10), Arizona Cardinals (3-10), Tennessee Titans (2-11) and Las Vegas Raiders (2-11) who also fell out of playoff contention with four weeks remaining in the NFL season.
