LAFC is going through one of its most complicated moments of the 2026 MLS season, and now the Angelino team lost 2-1 against St. Louis City and extended a worrying negative streak that is beginning to generate doubts among its fans, especially among the Hispanic community that closely follows the club in the United States.
The defeat had special significance for St. Louis City, as it was the first win in their history against LAFC after eight meetings. The result also confirmed the recovery of the home team, which has now won back-to-back victories after a long winless drought.
A devastating start for St. Louis

From the opening minutes, St. Louis City showed an intensity that surprised LAFC, coached by Steve Cherundolo.
Just four minutes in, Tomas Totland opened the scoring after a great team move that started with Marcel Hartel.
And it continued with a precise assist from Eduard Lowen on the right flank.
Totland appeared unmarked and beat veteran French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to make it 1-0.
It was an early blow that conditioned the rest of the game for Los Angeles.
LAFC tried to react, but once again showed defensive problems and a lack of attacking punch.
Two aspects that have marked his irregular campaign in MLS.
Meanwhile, St. Louis took advantage of every space and kept the pressure high for much of the game.
LAFC fails to emerge from crisis

The second goal came in the 64th minute and ended up sinking Los Angeles emotionally.
Sergio Córdova sent a dangerous cross into the box, the ball generated confusion in the Angelino defense and ended up at the feet of Rafael Santos.
He shot powerfully to make it 2-0 and set off the home fans’ celebrations.
Although Venezuelan David Martinez restored some hope for LAFC with a high-quality goal in the 73rd minute, the equalizer never came.
Martinez took advantage of Roman Burki’s advanced position and finished with an elegant touch to bring the visitors closer to the scoreboard.

Just when it looked like LAFC could salvage a point against St. Louis City, Swiss goalkeeper Roman Burki came up with a spectacular save in the 81st minute.
Aaron Long deflected a dangerous shot and the goalkeeper reacted brilliantly to preserve St. Louis’ lead.
That play ended up being decisive in the final result and confirmed the frustration of an LAFC that continues to find no consistency in the season.
The loss leaves LAFC with three consecutive losses in all competitions.
Pressure mounts on a team that began the season as a title contender.
In addition, the club has gone three straight games without a win in MLS, which is unusual for a squad full of international stars.
