The Detroit Lions defeated the Washington Commanders 22-44 on Sunday with three touchdowns by Jahmyr Gibbs, in a game that was almost a walkover against an opponent without star quarterback Jayden Daniels.
After today’s loss, with which they practically say goodbye to the season, the Commanders (3-7) must pack their bags for Madrid, where next Sunday they will face the Miami Dolphins at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

Lions quarterback Jared Goff completed 25 of 33 pass attempts for 320 yards this afternoon at Northwest Stadium in Landover, outside Washington.
Three of his passes resulted in touchdowns.
The Lions (6-3) are competing with the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears for the lead in the NFL’s National Conference North Division.
Marcus Mariota completed 16 of 22 passes (two touchdowns) for 213 yards. Mariota replaced Daniels, who had a serious elbow injury.
Detroit took the lead on its first offensive series of the game with the first touchdown of the afternoon by Jahmyr Gibbs, who caught a 14-yard pass from Jared Goff. John Bates completed the extra point for the Lions.
The Commanders could only respond with a ‘faithful goal’ by Matt Gay.
Still in the first quarter, Amon-Ra St. Brown scored Detroit’s second touchdown on a 9-yard pass from Goff.
Gibbs scored his second touchdown as early as the second quarter with a 13-yard run that the Lions capped off with a two-point conversion by David Montgomery after Daron Payne was ejected for an assault.
Chris Rodriguez converted the first touchdown of the afternoon for the Commanders after advancing one yard from the red zone, but a few seconds before halftime Bates, with a field goal, cooled the local hopes. 10-25 at halftime.
The Lions opened the second half with a Jameson Williams touchdown on a 14-yard pass from Goff.
The Commanders responded with one from Deebo Samuel, although they missed the two-point conversion they attempted.
A field goal by Bates made the score 16-35 at the end of the third quarter.
Gibbs scored his third touchdown with a 43-yard run to start the fourth quarter, but Bates was unable to complete the extra point, capped by the Commanders.
Washington did not give up and, thanks to young Ben Sinnott, added another touchdown to its scoreboard, although he was again unable to convert his two-point attempt.
Bates, with his third field goal of the game, made the score 22-44.
Trump booed
U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday became the first occupant of the White House to attend an NFL regular season game.
He arrived shortly before halftime and received a resounding boo when he appeared on the screens of the stadium, located on the outskirts of Washington, a hotbed of Democratic votes.
Minutes earlier, his plane, Air Force One, carrying Trump from Florida to Washington, had made a low-level flyover over the stadium, also greeted with boos from the majority of Commanders and Lions fans.
During the break, Trump participated in a military ceremony and was booed for the third time.
Trump’s presence at the game, invited by businessman Josh Harris, owner of the Commanders, coincided with information revealed by ESPN that the president wants the new stadium the team is building in Washington to bear his name.
