Bad Bunny’s victory at the Grammy Awards is “a triumph for him and for Latin music,” said Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi on Monday about the Grammy for album of the year won by his compatriot, the first time a Spanish-language album has won in that category.
“I got up very early to see the news and I celebrate it as if my brother had won. It is great what he has done because it is a triumph for him, who deserves everything he is living, but also for Latin music, for my country, for our language,” said Fonsi in an interview with EFE in Madrid to present his new song, ‘Cambiaré’.
The Puerto Rican remarked that the award won by Bad Bunny was not in the Latin category, but in the main category, which “is perhaps the most important award of the big ones”.
“And he stands there, to speak in Spanish, well in English too (when collecting his awards), but I think it’s a triumph for everyone,” he stressed.
Bad Bunny, lashed out at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as he picked up one of the three Grammy Awards he won: “We are not savages, we are not animals, we are human and we are Americans.
Luis Fonsi congratulates himself for Bad Bunny’s achievement

Fonsi recalled that he also lived an important moment for Latin music in 2017 in the United States, where he began and has developed much of his career, coinciding with his hit ‘Despacito’ and “just with the same president as today,” he said referring to Donald Trump.
And, “that song helped open many doors by singing in Spanish and being nominated for many awards at the time,” said the Puerto Rican who has “always” carried his flag “high”.
Bad Bunny achieved a historic milestone in his career and for Spanish-language music this Sunday by winning the Grammy for Album of the Year, the most important category of these awards, which in their 68th edition were loaded with political messages and criticism of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
DeBÍ TiBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS’ became the first all-Spanish album to be crowned in this category, beating out some of the night’s favorites such as Lady Gaga’s ‘Mayhem’ and Justin Bieber’s ‘Swag’.
According to Agencia EFE, the Puerto Rican added three more gramophones to his career by winning the awards for best urban music album and best global music performance with ‘EoO’.
