Before the 2026 World Cup, the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) will change its business model for the broadcasting rights of the National Team. The current contract with Televisa and TV Azteca, valued at 200 M USD plus 63 M variables, expires after the tournament and will not have an automatic renewal clause.
Starting in 2026, the FMF will put these rights up for open auction, seeking competitive bids from traditional, digital, streaming and international markets, in conjunction with Team Marketing, the firm behind the Champions League.
Bidding model and diversification

The new scheme contemplates a modern structure that segments rights by type of platform (broadcast TV, cable, streaming), levels of exclusivity and shared sales.
This allows the participation of global technology companies, OTTs, and traditional networks in the United States and Mexico.
With more than 65M followers in the U.S. and 78M in Mexico, the Mexican National Team is one of the most valuable teams on the continent, with an average audience of 5.8M per game.
In 2024, the estimated value of its rights was around 3.1 billion pesos.
Horizon 2028 for Liga MX

This model is not limited to the Mexican National Team:
Liga MX plans to unify and sell its broadcasting rights jointly in 2028.
The FMF and the clubs are reviewing contracts in both countries to articulate a collective sale that benefits everyone.
Liga MX rights are currently valued at around USD 500 M, although they are still far from the levels of Spain’s LaLiga.
A well-designed structure could transform the financial landscape of Mexican soccer.
Relevance to the Hispanic community

A partir de 2026, la FMF pondrá en subasta abierta estos derechos
