Spanish singer-songwriter Rosalía will receive the International Songwriter of the Year award at the Ivors 2026 awards, in partnership with Amazon Music, the Ivory Academy, the UK’s leading organization for songwriters, announced Thursday.

In a statement released today, the academy notes that the award recognizes an international songwriter whose songs have had a cultural and commercial impact in the United Kingdom in the past year.

The Spanish singer-songwriter released her album LUX in 2025, with hits such as “La Perla”, “Berghain” and “Reliquia”. Written in 13 languages, LUX represented not only a bold and innovative artistic step forward for Rosalía, but also a revelatory project that transcended language and gender barriers, the release notes.

Ivors stresses that Rosalia is rooted in tradition, with composition that flows naturally through form, language and genre, creating works that feel at once deeply authentic and uniquely original.

LUX managed to reach #1 on five Billboard charts, debuting at #4 on the Billboard 200, and was named one of the best albums of the year by Rolling Stone, Billboard, The New York Times, Pitchfork and The New Yorker.

Roberto Neri, executive director of the Ivors Academy, noted in the release the pride of “celebrating Rosalía as International Songwriter of the Year. Her songs have captivated audiences around the world. With lyrics in more than 13 languages, Rosalía has broken down barriers and borders”.

Likewise, the president of the Academy, Tom Gray, highlighted that, “with her talent, musicality and intellect, Rosalía redefines the concept of composition. Her work fuses tradition and experimentation with extraordinary precision and impact, creating songs that are constantly evolving and immersing us completely in her universe”.

The Ivor Awards, to be presented in London on May 21, celebrate the art, cultural impact and enduring importance of songs, reported Agencia EFE.
