The night of the Latin Grammy Awards 2025 left multiple highlights, but also an absence that generated surprise in social networks: Shakira, one of the most acclaimed artists of the previous edition, did not appear on the red carpet or at the gala held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Her name quickly became a trend. However, the reason for her absence had a more than special reason: the singer was fulfilling an important commitment as a mother and as a voice actress.
Instead of attending the musical ceremony, Shakira was in Los Angeles, California, participating in the world premiere of Zootopia 2, the sequel to Disney’s hit animated film. The Colombian actress returns to play Gazelle, the character that captivated audiences in the first installment and will return with new scenes and a revamped soundtrack.
The event took place at the Capitan Theatre, where Shakira made her triumphant entrance accompanied by her sons, Milan, 12, and Sasha, 10. The three starred in one of the most talked about moments of the night due to their coordinated lavender-colored looks, a detail that caused a furor among attendees and the press.
Shakira dazzled in a dress with a high neck, long sleeves and an elegant side slit.
Milan and Sasha wore identical suits of jacket and pants, white shirt, bow tie and sneakers, combining style and comfort.
While Las Vegas celebrated, Shakira shined in Los Angeles
The trio walked down the red carpet amidst applause and flashes. The children, already accustomed to the media attention, posed with total naturalness and were affectionate with their mother: hugs, laughs and kisses marked the most tender photo shoot of the premiere.
During the red carpet and in an interview with Good Morning America, Shakira confessed to feeling excited to be able to live such a significant moment with her children: “I’m very happy to be in such good company tonight,” she said.
She also recalled that when the first Zootopia movie was released in 2016, Milan and Sasha were just babies. This time, however, her children have been an active part of the process: “In this second film they have lived the whole process with me. They saw me write the song, they have seen Gazelle’s evolution… In fact, they have their own opinion because they think she looks like their mother,” she said with a laugh.
The evening was made even more exciting with the news that both children are making their debut in the film, lending their voices to two rabbits that appear in one of the scenes.
Milan said, “It was incredible. It’s something that happens once in a lifetime”.
Sasha, just as proud, added, “I’d like to do it more.”
The little ones entered the theater like true stars: amidst cheers, applause and emotional greetings, they reciprocated the audience’s affection by making gestures from the stage.
Although many expected to see Shakira at the Latin Grammy Awards, her absence had a meaningful explanation: the artist chose to accompany her children on an unforgettable night for them and for her career in animated films.
Thus, while in Las Vegas her presence was missed, in Los Angeles Shakira lived a family, professional and emotional moment that – according to her own words – she will remember for a lifetime.
