Rio de Janeiro authorities and event organizers estimate that at least two million people will attend the free concert that Colombian singer Shakira will give on May 2 at Copacabana, Brazil’s most famous beach.

The forecast was disclosed at a press conference held Thursday by the organizers of the event, which in 2024 gathered 1.6 million people for Madonna’ s concert and in 2025 2.1 million for Lady Gaga’s performance, according to their calculations.

“We could not have chosen anyone better for this year’s concert in Rio because Shakira represents what is best in world culture and in Latin culture. A culture that is capable of mobilizing millions. She will surely fill the beach,” said the municipal secretary of Culture, Lucas Padilha.

The regional secretary of Culture of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Danielle Barros, said that the police mobilization and the organizational structure for the Shakira concert will be the same as last year.

Padilha recalled that Shakira kicked off her current world tour in Rio, which is the largest tour by a Latin American artist in the world.

He also recalled that the largest number of tourists visiting Rio, including for musical events, come from neighboring countries in Latin America, where the Colombian singer has a large following.

At the press conference, a video sent by the singer and songwriter, already posted on her social networks, was shown, in which Shakira, in English, says she will be the star of the biggest concert on the planet, “in Copacabana, baby!

Brazil, adds the singer already in Portuguese, “I will be with you soon, in the most dreamed concert in my life. My God, we are going to have so much fun. I am missing you, but soon I will be in Rio, on Copacabana beach. Thank you very much and a big kiss. I love you Brazil”.

According to Agencia EFE, businessman Luiz Oscar Niemeyer, a partner in the Bonus Track production company responsible for the concert, recalled that last year Shakira set a record as the Latin American artist with the highest ticket sales on a world tour.
