Country artist Kacey Musgraves will perform in three concerts, beginning May 3, with three young Mexican mariachis from South Texas who were detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) last March.

Musgrave, who will release his new album ‘Middle of Nowhere’ next Friday, will perform at the historic Gruene Hall concert hall in New Braunfels on May 3, 4 and 5.

Tickets went on sale this morning and are already sold out, according to the venue’s official website.

Brothers Antonio, Caleb and Joshua Gámez-Cuéllar were held captive in two ICE migrant detention centers in Texas, in a situation that provoked a wave of criticism led by both Democratic and Republican politicians, as well as activists and community members in the southern part of the state, where the family had been living since 2023.

Antonio and Caleb were part of the statewide award-winning school group Mariachi McAllen Oro, which led them to be recognized in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2025.

The family, originally from San Luis Potosi in Mexico, was arrested during a routine presentence appointment with ICE and released after a lobbying campaign by Congressmen Joaquin Castro and Monica de La Cruz.

The Gámez-Cuéllar family entered the U.S. through the CBP One application, a program of Democrat Joe Biden’s administration (2021-2025), which allowed migrants to request an appointment to present themselves at the U.S. border and begin the process of applying for asylum.

Under the current Republican Administration of Donald Trump, migrant detentions in the U.S. reached record levels: in January the U.S. held more than 73,000 migrants, the highest number since the creation of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in 2001, according to data revealed by CBS News.

The detention of migrant minors in the US has increased sharply during the Trump Administration. According to the Deportation Data Project, a monthly average of 170 children were arrested between January and October of last year, compared to 25 during the last 16 months of the Biden Administration, reported Agencia EFE.
