The 2026 edition of the American Music Awards is already beginning to generate great expectation, and once again Taylor Swift is positioned as the main protagonist. With a total of eight nominations, the artist -who already holds the all-time record with 40 awards- leads the list and could further extend her lead in this prestigious award.
Behind Swift are names such as Morgan Wallen, Olivia Dean, Sabrina Carpenter y Sombrwho have seven nominations each. For his part, Alex Warren y Lady Gaga received six mentions, consolidating a close competition.
Taylor Swift sweeps AMA’s nominations: All-time records at stake
Taylor Swift’s dominance at the AMAs is undisputed. Far behind on the all-time list is Michael Jackson with 24 awards, followed by Alabama with 23 and Whitney Houston with 21.
Another artist who could climb the ranks is Justin Bieberwho has four nominations this year. He currently has 18 awards, and if he wins at least one, he would be tied with Kenny Rogers as one of the most awarded male artists in the history of the event.
In Latin America, the group Fuerza Regida Fuerza Regida leads with five nominations, standing out in the album of the year category for 111xpantia. It is followed by international figures such as Bad Bunny -nominated also for artist of the year, as well as Karol G y Rosalíawho received three mentions each.
In addition, emerging artists such as Olivia Dean and Sombr stand out by competing in key categories such as new artist of the year, song of the year and breakthrough album, establishing themselves as up-and-comers in the music industry.
New faces and outstanding achievements
The 2026 edition also marks the arrival of new talent to the AMAs. First-time nominees include Alex Warren, BigXthaPlug, KATSEYE, Leon Thomas, PinkPantheress, RAYE, Role Model, Sienna Spiro and Tate McRae.
On the other hand, Teyana Taylor receives her first nomination in these awards for Best Female R&B Artist, crowning an outstanding year that includes accolades in film and music.
Important nominations also come from the big screen. The trio HUNTR/X – made up of EJAE, Audrey Nuna and REI AMI – is competing in three categories thanks to their song “Golden,” part of the soundtrack of KPop Demon Hunters. Their success reflects the growing connection between the film and music industries.
The 52nd Annual American Music Awards will be hosted by Queen Latifah and will be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arenain Las Vegason May 25, coinciding with Memorial Day in the United States.
The ceremony will be broadcast live on CBS and will be available via streaming on Paramount+. In the meantime, fans can already vote for their favorites in the different categories, in a process that will remain open until May 8, with some exceptions that will be defined during the gala itself.
