This July 28, 2025, the U.S. Department of Justice(DOJ), led by Attorney General Pam Bondi, filed a formal disciplinary complaint against federal Judge James Boasberg, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

The complaint alleges that he made improper public comments about President Donald Trump and his administration during a private judicial conference in March, which Pam Bondi says “undermined the integrity of the judiciary.”

James Boasberg took on the Donald Trump administration for blocking deportation flights of alleged Venezuelan gang members to El Salvador under the Alien Enemies Act.

He ordered the return of more than 200 people and even considered initiating contempt sanctions against the federal government when they ignored his order.

Following these decisions, Donald Trump called him a “radical leftist lunatic” on networks.

For his part, Congressman Brandon Gill filed an impeachment bill against him.

However, Chief Justice John Roberts issued a public statement emphasizing that impeachment is not an appropriate response to discrepancies in judicial decisions.

What does the complaint allege?

According to the document filed by Chad Mizelle, Bondi’s chief of staff, Boasberg allegedly attempted to improperly influence other judges.

Among them Roberts, during a meeting on March 11.

On that occasion he said that the Republican administration could ignore federal rulings and provoke a constitutional crisis, without clear evidence for those claims.

The complaint asks that Boasberg be removed from the pending deportation case during the ethics investigation.
