Midfielder Obed Vargas, from Atletico Madrid, and Argentine striker Santiago Gimenez, from AC Milan, joined the Mexican national soccer team on Tuesday as it prepares for the 2026 World Cup.
“The national team management informs that players Santiago Giménez and Obed Vargas will join the Mexican National Team’s training camp today. Johan Vásquez, from Genoa, will join the training camp on Wednesday, May 27,” said coach Javier Aguirre’s team in a statement.
Obed Vargas takes key step into Europe

Vargas, a 21-year-old Mexican gem, has just obtained his passport as a Spaniard.
This is thanks to his Mexican mother, but with Spanish ancestry, which may facilitate his continuity with Atletico Madrid.
He will no longer occupy an extracommunity place.
Obed Vargas, who joined Atlético in January from Seattle Sounders of the MLS, has played 13 games in the red and white jersey.
Santiago Giménez, born in Buenos Aires but a naturalized Mexican citizen, arrived on Tuesday to compete for a place in El Tri’s attack.
His arrival comes after a complicated year at Milan due to an ankle injury, lack of goals and little continuity.
Giménez recorded 18 appearances, one goal in the Italian Cup, and two assists (Filed under: Mexican National Team Vargas and Giménez train).

The 25-year-old striker will have to compete for a place on the 26-man roster with Colombian Julian Quiñones.

In addition to Quiñones, among the Tri forwards is Raúl Jiménez, from Fulham of the Premier League, a team with which he had an outstanding season.
