There is no World Cup without Shakira, and she knows it. Following FIFA’s official announcement of the epic “Halftime Show” she will share with Madonna and Buzzy on July 19 in New York, the Colombian confessed that her relationship with soccer is something that runs in her blood. “I have an unquestionable connection with the World Cup,” she said with the confidence of someone who has been making the entire planet dance since South Africa 2010.
But this fourth appearance is not just about music and hips. For the barranquillera, the 2026 edition has a much greater emotional and social weight than the previous ones.

Shakira stressed that this event, coordinated by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and Global Citizen, aims to leave a real legacy.
“This will already be my fourth World Cup, but I think it will be the most special of all because this edition plans to leave an important legacy for all those children who have no visibility, who live in vulnerable conditions and who do not have access to quality education,” said Shakira.
And it’s not just words: his new World Cup hit, ‘Dai Dai’, is not just for the party.
La Loba confirmed that 100% of the profits from the song will be donated to FIFA and Global Citizen’s education fund. That’s using power for good, amiga!
From ‘Waka Waka’ to ‘Dai Dai’: An Unstoppable Legacy

When asked about her role as Latin ambassador, Shakira did not hesitate to accept the title.
He fondly recalled anthems like “Waka Waka” and “La La La,” but feels this Super Bowl-style halftime format will elevate the experience to another level.
“It’s a World Cup that feels different from the others. Obviously, my run with ‘La La La’ (Brazil 2014), with Waka Waka (2010) has been extraordinary.
“‘Waka Waka’ is one of my most endearing songs and both are also part of my musical legacy,” he noted.
Unlike Qatar 2022, where music was part of the pre-game closing ceremony, this time Shakira, Madonna and the boys of BTS will stop the clock in the middle of the game for an explosion of pop culture, Latin rhythms and K-pop that promises to paralyze the more than 1 billion expected viewers.
What’s your favorite Shakira song at the World Cups? Do you think ‘Dai Dai’ will be able to surpass the ‘Waka Waka’ phenomenon?
