The American journalist Anderson Cooper said goodbye to the program ’60 Minutes’, after two decades as a correspondent in the emblematic news program of the CBS network, in which he began to collaborate in the middle of the first decade of the 2000s.
In a segment recorded specifically to announce his farewell, Cooper ended this trajectory by hoping that the core of the program “will always remain intact”.
“I consider the independence of ’60 Minutes’ to have been critical,” he added.
The reporter reviewed his twenty years at CBS and was visibly emotional as he said his final farewell: “I’m Anderson Cooper,” he repeated to the camera more than three times.
The 58-year-old journalist will, however, maintain his relationship with CNN, where he will continue to lead his nightly program ‘Anderson Cooper 360°’ and other projects such as the New Year’s Eve special, after renewing his contract with this other news network in December 2025.
Cooper had already advanced in recent months his intention to leave ’60 Minutes’ to concentrate on his work at CNN and have more time for his family, a reason that justifies his departure as a personal decision and not as a break with CBS.
“For as long as I’ve been reporting for ’60 Minutes,’ my full-time job has been at CNN, and it still is,” Cooper commented.
However, his departure coincides with a time of profound changes at CBS, following the arrival last October of the current editor-in-chief, Bari Weiss, and a wave of cutbacks driven by media conglomerate Paramount, which resulted in the elimination of at least 100 jobs at CBS News and the cancellation of multiple programs on this network, reported Agencia EFE.
