Civil groups of the ‘Home is Here’ campaign launched Thursday a platform to monitor young migrants detained by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement(ICE) despite being covered by the DACA program, which so far totals almost 20 cases.

The associations, accompanied by lawmakers from the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, denounced at a conference that the Donald Trump Administration is “ignoring” the protections of these “dreamers” under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) that former President Barack Obama instituted in 2012.

“The moment we face now, when immigration agents have detained nearly 20 DACA recipients and the head of DHS (Department of Homeland Security) is openly violating protections.”

“And going after the beneficiaries is shameful,” said Deya Aldana, campaigns director for United We Dream.

The campaign follows the alarming arrest of Catalina ‘Xochitl’ Santiago in August.

In addition to accusations of ICE’s lack of transparency in the identification of detainees.

Trump tried to eliminate the DACA program

In his first administration (2017-2021), President Trump waged an unsuccessful legal battle that went all the way to the Supreme Court to eliminate the program, which protects eligible immigrants (Dreamers) from deportation and grants them a work permit.

“DACA has been an undeniable economic and moral success.”

“Tragically, it is under serious threat today, and given the massive popularity of the program, we, the American people, need to know this,” said Todd Schulte, president of the FWD.us organization.

DHS accused of ignoring protections

The activists and Democratic lawmakers, who also denounced “the detention so far of dozens of young immigrants,” accused DHS of “blatantly ignoring” DACA protections.

In addition, to focus on going after your beneficiaries.

The groups stated that authorities “routinely target” Dreamers during immigration checks at airports and outside their homes.

After their arrest, they are placed in deportation proceedings.

Congress asked to defend dreamers

“Every member of Congress must demonstrate to every ‘dreamer’ and immigrant that we know they are part of the fabric of our nation.”

“We must demand answers from DHS on the disappearance of DACA recipients,” argued Rep. Dalia Ramirez of Illinois.

The arrest of the ‘dreamers’ occurs in the midst of Trump’s deportation campaign.

Under his administration, the number of people in ICE custody has approximately doubled, with more than 58,000 detained in September, according to EFE.
