Luka Doncic, who led the Los Angeles Lakers to a 46-point victory over the Chicago Bulls, said Monday that “it’s always special” to play at the United Center because of Michael Jordan’s legacy.

“Sure, it’s always a special pavilion. We know who has played here, everything they’ve won. It’s always special for me,” Doncic said in Spanish at the United Center postgame press conference.

The Slovenian scored 46 points, 7 rebounds and 11 assists in the Lakers’ 129-118 win over the Bulls.

Luka Doncic shined at the United Center with 15-of-25 shooting from the field and 8-of-14 from beyond the arc.

“We were united, we are facing the games better,” Doncic said, referring to the positive momentum of the Lakers, who won four of their last five games.

And he expressed the hope that Austin Reaves would soon return to competition after recovering from a calf injury.

With Austin, it will be better, for sure

A legendary record

Luka Doncic once again left his mark on Los Angeles Lakers history by breaking a record that had stood unbroken for more than 70 years.

The Slovenian reached 2,000 points with the franchise in just 65 games, becoming the fastest player to do so since the team’s founding.

The mark came on January 26, during a 129-118 victory over the Chicago Bulls on a spectacular night at the United Center.

Luka Doncic had 46 points, seven rebounds and 12 assists, once again leading the Los Angeles offense in 38 minutes of action.

LeBron James also contributed to the win with 24 points.

With this achievement, Luka Doncic surpassed the record set by George Mikan, who needed 72 games to reach 2,000 points in the 1949-50 season, when the franchise still played in Minneapolis.

Not even legends like Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, Magic Johnson or Kareem Abdul-Jabbar achieved that number in fewer games, consolidating the Slovenian as a historical figure in the NBA.
