The Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry announced on Friday, September 26, that it will provide assistance to the Ecuadorian citizen assaulted by an immigration agent in New York, United States, an incident that occurred when the woman’s husband was being detained at the exit of her asylum hearing in a Manhattan court.
The police officer belonged to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement(ICE).

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility informed that it had requested official information on the case through the Ecuadorian Consulate in New York.
As well as the U.S. Embassy in the Andean country.
This is with the intention of providing the pertinent explanations about the “physical violence” that was exercised against the woman.
The victim, Monica Moreta Galarza, was accompanied by her two minor children at the time of the assault and also has an asylum case in process, according to the Ministry.
Ecuadorian woman denounces aggression
In statements to the Telemundo network, Monica Moreta explained that, upon leaving the hearing, the immigration police took her husband away.
The woman, who is also in the middle of an asylum process, asked why she was not being held and where her husband was being taken.
“He just said ‘get out of here’ and threw me out,” the woman explained.
Protest in NY after assault
The case provoked dozens of demonstrators to come to the vicinity of ICE in New York to protest against the acts of violence committed in some immigration processes.
The United States is one of the main destinations for migrants from Ecuador, who seek better living conditions abroad, as well as Spain and Italy in Europe.
