Dasahev López Saavedra, better known as ‘El Dasa’, was born in Hermosillo, Sonora, and as a teenager crossed the border into the United States in search of opportunities.
His experience as an undocumented migrant profoundly marked his life and his artistic vision. After working in manual jobs, he eventually ventured into the world of music, becoming an outstanding performer of regional Mexican music. .
El Dasa: A career that breaks new ground

El Dasa became known for his groundbreaking style in grupera music, defending his Mexican identity and proudly addressing his migratory trajectory.
He has worked with renowned composers and starred in the first season of the series “El Vato” on Netflix, broadcast in 17 languages.
This expansion reflects his vision that this musical genre can transcend regionalism and conquer new audiences.
From the beginning, El Dasa refused to disguise his story. He acknowledged that it was not easy: “Crossing the border, working without documents, facing discrimination”. But he turned those challenges into an engine of motivation to sing with strength, dignity and conviction.
His phrase, “I’m not worth it for likes,” evidences his principle of working with solid family and cultural values, not for instant recognition.
A message of hope for what is happening with the raids

For Latinos living in the United States, El Dasa’s story represents a realistic path of hope.
This is not a celebrity who disavows her origins, but someone who evidences daily effort: working hard jobs, learning English, persevering, and then achieving a professional artistic career.
His narrative combats stereotypes and shows that it is possible to maintain strong cultural roots – boots, sombrero, Mexican pride – while advancing to new horizons.
El Dasa not only sings; he has also been a spokesman for migrants working in agriculture, construction or services, key sectors in the U.S. economy.
As he himself said, he wants to open doors for Mexican regional music to be recognized internationally and for migrants to see their struggle reflected in a successful figure.
The hope it gives to immigrants

Through an interview on the program ‘Hoy Día’, ‘El Dasa’ sent a message to immigrants about what is happening with the raids in the United States:
“I experience it first hand, I live in the city of Las Vegas, but I go to Los Angeles, I lived there 10 years, I walk the streets, I get to understand a lot, I get the image in my head of ‘they got them in that parking lot’ and I feel a lot of helplessness…I don’t think they (the government) are such bad people,” he commented.
Le pido esperanza a la gente y espero que lo que venga sea mejor, yo confío en eso
El Dasa is a symbol for Hispanics
El Dasa is much more than a grupero singer; he is a symbol of a possible migrant dream, a living example that with talent, authenticity and discipline, it is possible to conquer goals in the U.S. without giving up your identity.
His story legitimizes the experience of thousands of Hispanics who day by day build their lives outside their homeland, demonstrating that migrant pride is not a burden, but an impulse to grow.
