The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, insisted this Thursday “to anyone who has doubts” that in the country the people rule, after her U.S. counterpart, Donald Trump, said that Mexico and Canada do what their government tells them to do.
“By the way, for anyone who has any doubts, this is a message from Mexico to the world: in Mexico the people rule,” he said in a video shared on his social networks.
Sheinbaum’s message comes after Trump said that both Mexico and Canada do what his administration tells them to do when it comes to border security, a problem he claimed to have solved himself.
“Mexico does what we tell it to do, and Canada does what we tell it to do,” Trump assured reporters in the Oval Office of the White House.
The Republican praised his alleged plan to end crime and affirmed that when he returned to the White House last January, the situation on the two borders “was horrible”; however, not now: “There are people who say it is a miracle,” he said.
These statements come after Mexico sent 26 drug trafficking leaders imprisoned in the Latin American country to the United States, following a request from the US Department of Justice.
In addition, in recent hours a controversy has been generated in Mexico by the flight of a U.S. drone over Mexican airspace.
Sheinbaum assured this Thursday in a conference that the overflight was requested by her government because Mexico does not have the specific material that was required.
“The request is made within the framework of collaboration so that there is a flight from the United States of equipment that is not available in Mexico,” said the Mexican governor, who added that it was used for a special investigation “related to organized crime,” according to information from Efe.
